Journey
Catherine Kusasira is one of Uganda’s most enduring female music stars, celebrated for her works and commanding stage presence. She launched her career in 2003 at just 19 and quickly rose to prominence as part of the renowned Eagles Production band. Over the years, she’s carved out a unique sound, mixing Afro-pop, R&B, and traditional Ugandan elements, with hits like Enkola Ya Taxi, Ssi Ddogo, Ndi Mukugu, Mr. Handsome, and Wafuuka Bikadde. Her music often explores love, loyalty, and everyday social realities, resonating with a wide audience across generations.
Beyond the mic, Kusasira has become a visible figure in politics and social advocacy. A known supporter of the ruling NRM party, she was appointed Presidential Advisor on Kampala Affairs and later announced her intention to contest for Buikwe District Woman MP in 2026. She also expressed interest in representing Uganda at the East African Legislative Assembly. In a bold move toward self-development, she returned to school in 2022 to study International Relations and Diplomacy at Nkumba University.
Kusasira has also been candid about her personal health struggles. After undergoing surgery in 2024 to remove fat around her heart, she returned to public life healthier and more vibrant. In January 2025, she marked two decades in music with an emotional concert, The Roots of Catherine Kusasira, Old Is Gold, featuring legends like Afrigo Band. Outspoken, resilient, and deeply rooted in the Ugandan experience, Catherine Kusasira continues to influence music, leadership, and culture with the same bold energy she began with.
